Frequently asked questions
Where is my data stored?
On your device, and in your own private iCloud account if you're signed in. The developer cannot read your notes — they are inside your private CloudKit database, which is part of your personal iCloud. See the privacy policy for details.
Notes aren't syncing between my devices.
- Confirm all devices are signed in to the same Apple Account, and that iCloud Drive is on.
- Open Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Saved to iCloud (or, on Mac: System Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Saved to iCloud) and make sure Notera is enabled.
- The app shows a small banner at the bottom of the notes list if iCloud is unavailable or signed out. If you see this banner, sync is off — sign in to fix it.
- Initial sync can take a few minutes after first launch, especially with many notes.
How do I delete a note permanently?
Notera uses a "soft delete" model — deleted notes go to the Trash and can be restored. To permanently remove them, open the Trash view from the sidebar and use Empty Trash, or delete the note from the Trash directly.
How do I reorder checklist items?
Drag the row by the handle on the left. You can also indent or outdent items to create nested checklists. On Mac or iPad with an external keyboard, use ⌘⇧↑ / ⌘⇧↓ to move and ⌘⇧→ / ⌘⇧← to indent / outdent.
How do I create a folder or tag?
On Mac, use the menu bar or right-click the sidebar. On iPhone and iPad, tap the + button in the sidebar header — Notera asks whether to add a new folder or tag.
What are the keyboard shortcuts?
- ⌘N — New note
- ⌘⇧N — Quick Capture
- ⌘⇧P — Pin / Unpin selected note
- ⌘E — Archive / Unarchive selected note
- ⌘⌫ — Move selected note to Trash
- ⌘1 / ⌘2 / ⌘3 — All Notes / Pinned / Archived
- ⌘⇧↑ / ⌘⇧↓ — Move checklist item up / down
- ⌘⇧→ / ⌘⇧← — Indent / Outdent checklist item
- ⌘⇧. — Toggle checklist item complete
Can I export my notes?
Not yet in version 1.0. Because your notes live in your private CloudKit database, they remain in your iCloud account independently of the app — but a built-in export to plain text / Markdown is on the roadmap.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Email andreas@0x01.se with a short description and a screenshot if relevant.
